Like almost 10,000 pounds of ewaste! After much planning, our electronic waste collection event at Saddleback Church was a huge success. Over 130 families came through with various kinds of electronic waste – anything from really heavy televisions to a vintage 80’s style car phone. Notice I said “car” phone and not “mobile” phone – there is nothing mobile about that one! But we all had a good laugh remembering when those Miami Vice style phones were all the rage.
There were so many wonderful added blessings to the event – as if keeping 10,000 pounds of electronic waste out of the landfill was not enough!
- People said over and over again how happy they were to have some place to take their electronic waste.
- Many people were reassured to know their computer hard drives would be wiped clean.
- Several computers, printers, and router systems were donated to a ministry that helps educate people throughout Latin America.
- A pallet of usable items were donated to charity.
- Several thousand dollars will be donated to the church once the recyclable items are calculated and the resalable items are sold.
And last, but by no means least -AWESOME VOLUNTEERS! An event like this would never work without the hard work and cooperative spirit of people coming together for a common cause. We were blessed immeasurably (seriously, could not have done the event without these folks) to have Julie, Joshua, Matt, Jamie, and Stephane working hard in the hot sun for more hours than I am sure they thought when they agreed to help.
Just doing what we can, when we can to live a little greener in California.
